Leadership Coaching Series for Principals and Assistant Principals
Creating a welcoming and affirming environment through culturally responsive leadership
This Leadership Coaching Series will support building leaders (principals and assistant principals) in creating relationship-centered, culturally responsive, and equitable school environments that support the health and well-being of staff, particularly staff of color, contributing to improved staff morale and increased teacher retention. Over the past several years, administrators have felt increasingly unsure of how to support their staff, given the mounting and compounding pressures teachers face, and are experiencing a lost sense of competence, belonging, and job satisfaction. This leadership coaching series will focus on helping administrators build greater confidence and competence in leading with compassion, creating welcoming and affirming environments, and supporting staff of color in their roles. Facilitated by staff from the Whole Child Connection at Children’s Institute, each 2-hour session will include time for self-reflection, learning new content and strategies, and dialogue and discussion with peers. Participants will have time to break into grade level groups (elementary/secondary) and role-alike groups (Principal/AP). Each session will build on itself so participation in the full series is encouraged. In addition to leadership content, BOCES staff will participate and offer important state and county-level updates as needed and relevant to the group.
