Children’s Institute (“CI”) Announces Leadership Transition & Executive Director Search
ROCHESTER, NY (March 21, 2024) – Children's Institute (CI), a national non-profit that partners with other organizations and individuals to promote the well-being of children, youth, and families, is announcing the departure of Executive Director Dr. Ann Marie White and the appointment of Terry Hartmann as Interim Executive Director.
“The Board of Directors extends its deepest gratitude to Ann Marie White for her 4½ years of dedicated leadership and service to Children's Institute,” said Dr. Larry Perkins, Board Chair. “Ann Marie led the organization through the challenges of the pandemic and the public health crisis of racism, implementation of an updated strategic plan, a brand refresh and move to a new location, all with a focus on systems change, family-centeredness, and social justice. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Ann Marie White leaves Children's Institute with a strong foundation for continued success. During her tenure, program highlights include the launch of Caring Connections with the Rochester City School District, a community-driven program that strives to build caring and authentic relationships between preschool families and schools with a focus on digital access and connection; expanded Behavioral Supports for Children to provide universal screening and behavioral health consultation integrated into preschool curriculum; and transformation of data and science practices with strategic staffing, research and evaluation projects. The organization has a strong team with expertise and energy from both new and experienced staff members.
“To ensure a smooth transition during this leadership change, the Board has appointed Terry Hartmann as Interim Executive Director,” said Dr. Larry Perkins. “With an MBA in International Business from the University of Chicago and a BS in Engineering from Cornell University, and recent experience serving as Director of Finance & Operations for Children’s Institute from 2013-2022, Terry brings a wealth of understanding of CI’s programs, deep relationships with staff and partners, and a commitment to our mission and values. We are confident in his ability to lead while we conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent successor.”
“I am honored to serve as Interim Executive Director of Children's Institute during this important time,” said Terry Hartmann. “I am confident that, together with the talented team at Children's Institute, we will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.”
The Board of Directors has formed a search committee to lead the recruitment process for a permanent Executive Director. The committee will conduct a national search to identify a qualified candidate who will build upon Children's Institute's strong foundation and lead the organization to even greater mission fulfillment, as we join together to support brighter futures for our children.
