October 2021: Children's Institute Board Member Rashid Muhammad, Ed.D., presented a virtual seminar, "Listening, Learning, and Healing: History and Significance of Juneteenth" which considered the history of Juneteenth, its adoption as a federal holiday, and what it means for us today. This event through the Nazareth College Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue, was co-sponsored by the Division of Community and Belonging and the Center for Spirituality at Nazareth.

Executive Director Ann Marie White, Ed.D., presented at two international conferences:

October 2021: Presentation at the International Academy of Suicide Research (IASR)/American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) International Summit (October 24-27), a virtual conference on Suicide Research. Ann Marie was part of a session entitled "Population and Systems-Based Approaches to Suicide Prevention." Read more

August 2021: A presentation titled, "Multi-finality in violence and suicide due to risk and protection among emerging adults in communities of color" was given at the International Systems Dynamics Conference by Ann Marie White and Lauren DiGiovanni. Among other issues, they summarized how factors result in multi-finality, due to inter-dependencies between risk and protective factors, representing the complexity in how rates of suicide and violence may dynamically behave, simultaneously, in communities of color.




August 2021: Executive director Ann Marie White and colleague Dori Young took part in Freedom Scholars Learning Center's morning Harambee activities which include singing, chants, and affirmations, and listening to the stories from Read Aloud guests.




August 2021: Children’s Institute attended along with other Rochester community partners at the National Night Out, a family-friendly, community-wide event.




June 2021: Children’s Institute board, staff, and friends gathered for a food truck picnic to celebrate the start of summer and the transition to our new fiscal year. Staff from ROC The Future, Greater Rochester Summer Learning Association, Children Awaiting Parents, and COMET For Children also joined in on the fun.
